Some love stories sparkle. Taylor and Aidan’s truly shines.
When they began planning their wedding, they knew their rings had to be meaningful and personal. Thanks to Taylor’s brother Tyson, a Yukon gold miner and familiar face from Discovery TV’s Gold Rush, they had the perfect starting point: a vial of raw gold dust mined by hand in Dominion Creek, Yukon.
The couple brought this extraordinary material to Stittgen Fine Jewelry in West Vancouver, a jeweller Aidan’s family has trusted for more than a decade. From the moment we saw the gold dust, we knew this custom wedding band project would be something unforgettable.
A Gift from the Yukon
The gold dust wasn’t just a material—it was a piece of family history. Few couples have the chance to turn a heartfelt gift like this into rings that will last a lifetime and beyond. (You can even see Tyson at work on his Instagram @goldrushtyson and on Gold Rush @goldrushtv.)
Together, we explored how to honour the significance of the gold. Taylor envisioned two slim, elegant bands that would frame her cherished heirloom engagement ring, originally belonging to Aidan’s grandmother. Aidan gravitated toward a bold, textured band that echoed the rugged, natural beauty of the Yukon.
Transforming Raw Gold into Rings
We began by weighing and testing the gold dust. Because the material was so sentimental, we didn’t use standard third-party alloying which uses large batches from different sources. Instead, our master goldsmith alloyed the gold in-house, blending it perfectly for strength and wearability while preserving its original character.
Once melted and alloyed, the gold was carefully hand-forged in our West Vancouver studio. Every step—shaping, striking, filing, and polishing—was done by hand, a hallmark of true custom jewelry craftsmanship. The rings were completed with our signature Stittgen hammered texture, giving them a warm, organic glow that reflects their natural origins.
A Lasting Legacy
From a small vial of Yukon gold dust, three heirloom-quality rings emerged: two glowing bands for Taylor that framed the family engagement ring, and one substantial, textured band for Aidan that carries the raw beauty of the North.
These rings are more than wedding bands. They are symbols of family and craftsmanship, designed to be cherished for generations.
